Historical Overview

altThe Restoring Lives Community Development Corporation (RLCDC) was created to develop and implement programs that promote and strengthen Prince William County and surrounding communities. These programs include individual and family empowerment, asset building, and economic self-sufficiency. RLCDC enhances the quality of life in the community through outreach, community development, educational programs, and partnerships to develop and rehabilitate projects in the State of Virginia These efforts create stable neighborhoods by purchasing, leasing, or otherwise acquiring any or all interests in vacant land, industrial, public, residential/commercial real property.

Since its inception in 2001, Restoring Lives Community Development Corporation has been impacting Prince William County and surrounding communities with its outreach and education initiatives. To its credit, the RLCDC has partnered with local and national businesses and organizations to distribute over 15 tons of food and thousands of articles of clothing; awarded over $100,000 in college scholarships; provided transitional and temporary housing for local area families; provided approximately 8,000 children backpacks filled with school supplies and provided hundreds of families food and gifts during the holiday season.

Recently, RLCDC was awarded a $10,000.00 grant from the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) to begin the initial planning phase of developing affordable housing in Prince William and Culpeper Counties. The planned communities will be mixed use/mixed income developments.

The RLCDC has recently partnered with the Prince William County School System to launch a mentoring/life coaching program. The initial focus of the initiative will be male youths in elementary thru high school.

Largely due to its successes in the Prince William County community, RLCDC has extended its development strategies and principles internationally. RLCDC provides technical assistance to leaders in Kenya and Uganda in an effort to help bring about change in developing communities.
